For Patients and Families

We know you have questions about cancer testing and treatment options. Whether you’re here for yourself or a loved one, we want to help you understand more about the tests we use to diagnose cancers.

There's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Your provider may order testing from Fulgent Oncology in order to gain important information for your cancer care. Precision medicine uses details about a person’s unique genes or proteins to help navigate the best path forward.

What is Comprehensive Genomic Profiling (CGP)?

CGP is a single test that analyzes hundreds of genes to detect cancer-causing mutations. Understanding the mutations in your cancer’s DNA may help your doctor identify a targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or clinical trial that is right for you.

Certain DNA mutations can lead to abnormal cell growth, which can lead to cancer. Targeted therapy may stop the growth of cancer cells by targeting these specific mutations. Immunotherapy helps your body’s own natural immune system fight and kill the abnormal cancer cells. Clinical trials are research studies that may involve different therapy types.

By using CGP to identify the specific mutations and biomarkers in your cancer, your doctor can help determine which options are best for you.
